Langholm Stories

About This Project

Format: 1 x 50 minute documentary

Concept: A heartfelt portrait of a tight knit Scottish community during the annual Common Riding – a time when magic happens.

Detail: Just Films was commissioned by Scottish director-producer Jamie Telford to help document and edit stories about his childhood home Langholm, a charming town in the Scottish borderlands. The resultant film provides a fly-on-the-wall observation of the town’s preparations and execution of the Common Riding Day – a much loved tradition and the biggest event of the year. Jamie’s voice narrates and occasionally asks old friends questions about the event and their lives. In a gentle, unassuming way, the film weaves through the town and its people, exploring themes of tradition, community and belonging.
